Day 8 - Galaxidi (Γαλαξιδι) to Corinth (Κορινθου)

Sunday, October 3
Travel time
: 6 hrs, Distance: 41.7 nm

Today was a beautiful, beautiful morning. We departed at 7:40 a.m. and were able to watch the sun rise over the hills.

We motored out to the wind and then motor-sailed at 7 kts. We had a easy sail and we just relaxed.

We moored in the Corinth Yacht Harbor. There wasn't a lot of space. We circled around awhile before deciding to slip into a side tie on the northeast quay in front of a Swedish couple. Our neighbors were nearing the end of their yearly three months of sailing around the world. Each year, they pack up their kids, now 1 and 3 years old, and pick up their boat from wherever they left it the year before and continue their cruise. They were heading for Athens where the boat would stay for the winter.

They lent us their flat water hose to extend our hose to reach the water faucet. But our hose fitting was defective and we took turns holding the connection to prevent water leakage. The water pressure was pretty weak, so filling the tanks was going to take quite awhile. To prevent sunburn, we put the umbrella that we bought in Mourtos to good use as a sun screen.

The new town of Corinth was not very impressive. Kevin thought that it looked like Beirut. Corinth is a large commerce center and all the buildings are plain, beige, and look the same. The old town of Corinth is some distance outside the new town, but this time we didn't venture out.

Since today was Sunday, almost all the stores were closed, but the restaurants and street cafes were busy with young people.

Mark and Laverne fixed us dinner on the boat and we stayed up talking and enjoying the warm evening until 10:30 p.m.
